The Friends

Amy Foster: The heart of the group. An very cute girl, spunky, ready for adventure, emotionally intelligent. She's very good at reading people. The emotional leader of the group. Will fight god if given a reason to. The second most athletic real kid. A fan of Miya, the influencer and model. Single mom who works in the hospital. Loves her daughter, but is often working.

Amy is involved in Leo's last death in that she saw the sniper before they fired and took the bullet to save him. Was saved from their blood mixing together, healing her wound. Caused Leo to explain the truth of who he was.

Tybalt 'Ty' Afumba: The jock of the group and the leader type. Good at organizing others, and most athletic of the real kids. Rivalry with Amy who is stronger. The jury is out, with Ty slightly ahead on the score. Also has an interest in acting and theater. His father was abusive and enforced toxic masculinity. He's gone now. Is extremely mistrusting of adults and felt very betrayed by Mister Washington's 'departure.'

Connor Miller: The conspiracy nut. He's also the biggest fan of Unisonya and Prisma Knight and knows the most about them other then Leo after a certain point. He has a tendency to get into trouble and over his head. On the other hand, while a lot of his theories are wrong, when he's right, he's usually scarily right. He also knows a lot of the occult and is usually the most prepared on how to handle the supernatural events they run into. Is often ignored and dismissed by those around him, any attention is good attention type.

Prama Dhar: The booksmart and good at puzzles one. Prama is the most responsible aside from Leo. She's also the meekest of the group. She's confident in her skill, but finds it hard to stand up for herself. A natural born genius and reads a large amount of books. Also the most forgiving at face value, it takes a lot for her to write someone off. Suffers gifted child pressure from her parents who mean well, but its a lot for a kid, and an immigrant on top of that. Also the most aware of how much Leo can do and how Weird It Is. One time saw him really fuck up a gangster who tried to hurt her.

James/Leo

James Washington
He grew up in the USA. Grew up with both parents, and three sisters, Rachel, Isabella, and Daiyu, the latter two adopted. Takes after his mother.

He's always been an exceptionally smart kid, and driven enough to get good at things he decides to try. He had a hard time making friends though, since outwardly expressing emotions had always been difficult for him. However, those he was close to, he was always fiercely loyal to and would do anything to protect them. The anger he feels when someone threatens or abuses someone he cares about is dangerous and he's gone pretty far to hurt those who hurt his people.

He joined the military because he bought into the idea he would be able to protect his home and country. Also it seemed the best place to make use of all the various things he's learned in his youth, and expand his skill list. In a few short years, he was scouted for a special group. Agents who took care of the problems that they couldn't take care of through proper channels.

James was very good at his job. While he wasn't the best of acting, his taciturn nature made him at least good at disappearing into a party to act as back up to the real charm the times the jobs were straight up mercenary or assassin jobs. More importantly, he was excellent at getting into places that were hard to get into, and getting out of situation that go downhill fast. People on his team Just Did Not Die.

Then he was asked to kidnap a little girl of an activist journalist for the UN.

It had been a rock through the glass house of belief he had been doing the Right Thing, but he could not make peace with the job. Endangering a child, the child of anyone, was an evil act. Let alone to silence a journalist.

He took a closer look at his past jobs, and started to notice that while some were a Greater Good, there were a disturbing amount that were just about protecting the interests of the elite.

He instead warned the journalist of what was happening, gave a nondescript contact, and Ran. He moved from place to place, changing his identity, keeping a low profile while he tried to figure out what he valued more: his life, or taking down his previous organization. He knew what they were doing was wrong, but he was also just One Guy, and he personally liked living, thank you very much. It was one thing to help when he was reasonably sure he could win, it was another when it was highly unlikely.

Then he moved to just outside London, taking a job as a gym teacher at a very poor school who didn't look too closely at his papers. At first he was unpopular for being a cold asshole. However, the school was full of kids the system had given up on, and a good number of families too. James sincerely wanted to help the kids, help them find ways to achieve their dreams, because this was a goal he could manage, and these kids needed someone to Just Care if they were to keep going.

Sometimes it meant helping kids study, sometimes it meant finding educational resources for them to pursue special interests, sometimes it meant having a serious talk with troubled kids and finding the root of the problem. Sometimes it meant scaring the life out of parents who weren't good parents. Sometimes it meant the worst disappeared. James did all he could to help and encourage the kids and that sincerity won over a large number of them. This included the Scooby Gang kids.

James had gotten complacent. He enjoyed this life. He felt he was making a difference. He could just ignore the past and help his kids.

Then he saw a former partner and realized he couldn't stay. Not without getting killed.

He hated the thought. He hated how he still couldn't contact his family for fear of getting them targeted. He didn't want to leave the kids he wanted to help succeed and he definitely didn't want to be yet another adult who failed them.

Then he came across a Magical Feather that saw fit to grant his wish.

Leo Davidson
The feather disappeared into his body. For better or worse, James was stuck with the wish granted. He made up the name Leo and using his knowledge of the school, got himself enrolled. He also used the fact the school has had part of its building under construction for the past several years to set up a place to stay since, you know, he couldn't sign a lease anymore.

The school faculty was Really, Really Apathetic.

He set up before a gym storage room that was against the construction, setting up a secret room and hidden door. No one noticed the storage room was suddenly smaller. He lives there with his one eyed cat Donut, and with his young body, he decides its finally time to really look into finding a way to stop the organization. After all, no one is going to suspect a kid even if he gets caught. They'll just think it was someone else.

He starts going to school in hopes of still helping the kids who needed guidance, albeit in more subtle, round about ways. Amy is the first to befriend him and pulls him into the friend group. They had only recently become friends thanks to being in a study group James had formed for the kids. It hurt to see how much Mister Washington leaving hurt them, but at least being friends made it a lot easier for him to find ways to help them.

Unfortunately, the make up of the group had resulted in them being trouble magnets.

The kids would often get into Scooby Doo like shenanigans. They would start solving mysteries, by accident, or on purpose. They have exposed money laundering, mafia, drug rings, robberies, cults, so many kidnappings, and even a few murders. It had taken quite a lot of creative thinking on Leo's part to hide the fact he had no parents, with excuses of business trips and calling with voice changers.

And Then The Magic Happened.

Sometimes, magical bullshit would happen. There were many Feathers like what Leo had and they would make things from giant swans to time traveling portals. The first instant was the latter. Leo and his friends ended up in the time of dinosaurs, but thanks to tar pits, they were able to send rocks in the future with messages for Prisma Knight and Unisonya, who dealt with the magical bullshit. In the meantime, they did their best to survive.

Until a T-Rex got on their trail. They were able to escape by swinging across a ravine...mostly.

The vine broke before Leo could follow, having insisted on being last. Leo led the T-Rex away from the other kids and while he tried to fight it off...he ended up eaten.

Which is when he found out the second part of his power. The Feather gave him youth, but it also gave him life. Everytime Leo dies, he would wake up in a few hours, no worse for wear. It had been a surprise, but he focused on his friends. By the time he found them, Prisma Knight and Unisonya had too. They returned to the future and it was then Leo talked to them about having a Feather since Prisma Knight could sense it in him.

He explained that he was being Hunted down by an evil organization and if he lost the Feather, it would essentially be a death sentence for him. Because he will guilt trip adults, he is morally gray, niceness is for kids. He does explain, however, that he is very skilled, and if they're willing to help him deal with the Organization, he's willing to offer them his services, and a willingness to return the Feather when the organization is taken down.

The guilt trip didn't necessarily Work, but the hero duo ultimately decide that they'll be nice and help him and it didn't hurt to have a skilled ally. Trust is....tentative. Highly, highly, HIGHLY tentative. It takes a great deal of time for them to learn to truly trust each other, and Leo doesn't learn their identities for a great long while.

Which is especially funny because he has reason to be suspicious of Kit and Miya for being enemies. Because identity shenanigans are great.

So Leo's life becomes a mix of Scooby Doo, guest starring for a Magical Girl show with and without his friends, death loops, and doing wild spy stuff all while trying to not let his friends know what's going on.
