"We have a ghost hunt." Connor declares, setting down his lunch tray from across Leo.
Leo sighs, looking up from his tray. "Ghosts don't exist."
"Ghosts do exist. You've seen the news. Magic exists, so spirits and soul and thus ghosts totally exist," Connor said like it was airtight.
"It's possible ghosts exists," Prama said.
"So there's totally a ghost to hunt," Connor said.
"Potentially," Prama stressed.
"You know how he is, Prama. He's gonna be on this until we look into it," Ty said with an amused look, stealing a fry from Connor's tray as he dug around in his bag.
"Where's the ghost?" Amy asked, holding out a hand for the paper.
Connor goes on about the stories, the usual. Strange lights, strange sounds, someone saw a figure in the windows.
"All here in our very own school!"
Leo chokes on his food.
There is concern, Amy whacking his back until he can breathe right and he waves off the concern.
"We really shouldn't break into our school. It's probably just some teachers working late," Leo suggested after taking a long drink.
There is a chorus of derisive noises from the other kids.
"The only teacher who cared to stay later then they had to was Mister Washington," Prama said.
"Supposedly cared," Ty muttered. There is a sudden heavy tension in the air.
"I'm sure there's a good reason he had to leave," Amy said quietly.
"It might have been a family thing. If something happened in the States, he probably had to rush home," Prama said.
"If he's from the States. I still think he was a secret agent. He knew so much. I bet her was here for spy work and he had to follow his assignment!" Connor said.
"Whose Mister Washington?" Leo asked.
"Our gym teacher. He left suddenly a few weeks ago," Amy said, playing with her fork. "He was....really nice."
"Or real good at pretending," Ty added and flinched as Prama kicked him under the table. "Whatever."
Leo looked between the four, all suddenly in a far darker move and he huffed, grabbing the paper. "Well, if we're breaking into the school, we'll need to be careful. Probably put tape over one of the door latch bolts."
"No need. I have a key," Prama said.
Leo looked up. "How do you have a key?"
"The librarian told me to just lock up after I was done with my project and return the key tomorrow morning. I thought it'd be handy to have a key," Prama said proudly.
"....you really weren't kidding about the staff," Leo said with a sigh, facepalming gently.
The memory skips to that night with them sneaking into the school. "So if we split up, take the left and right side-" Ty started.
"Isn't that just how people die in horror movies?" Leo asked.
"I thought ghosts didn't exist?" Ty shot back to Leo.
Leo just scowled at him as he laughed.
"The school hasn't had any mysterious deaths in the last few decades. So this is probably a really old ghost reawakened from the construction they started a few years ago," Connor said. Construction that was Still Happening and took up part of the playing fields. "But there's been no accidents, so its likely just someone whose bones need to be laid to rest and not a poltergeist. As long as no one is alone, we should be safe."
Leo sighed. "So split up gang?"
"Probably three to the construction area," Prama said, unlocking the door and holding it open for everyone. "In case there's any accidents."
"I'll go that way," Leo said.
"That seems the most likely place with ghosts," Connor said.
"Leo, can I trust you to take good notes with an unbiased eye?" Prama asked.
Leo sighed. "Yeah, yeah," he said.
"I'll go with Prama, just in case," Ty said. "Someone's gotta watch her back."
Prama rolled her eyes and Amy huffed. "I could beat you in a fight," Amy said.
"One day, we'll actually finish one," Ty said. "Until then, I'll keep my crown."
"You-" Amy started, only to be reined in by Leo wrapped an arm around her shoulders and tugging her after Connor.
"Sooner we do this, sooner we can go home," Leo said.
"Good luck you guys!" Prama called as they split up.
Amy, Connor, and Leo head on towards the construction part of the school. They keep quiet, doing their best to not draw attention of any ghosts before they notice the ghosts first. Leo is mostly watching the other two. There is some jumping and nerves of sneaking around in the dark from the other two. Leo seems unaffected.
Then they get to the construction.
Leo tries to get them to not go, its dangerous, who knows if any of that stuff is structurally sound right now, but they're determined. Leo follows along, very put upon. They try to be careful, and he's even more careful, but its very clear construction has been on hold A While.
Scaffolding breaks and Connor almost falls, Leo quickly moving to grab him, almost goes down, and Amy grabs him. After some struggling, they manage to get to stable ground.
"Okay, we're done," Leo said. "This was a wild goose chase and you almost got hurt!"
"It's not a wild goose chase!" Connor protested.
"There is no ghost!"
"You don't know that!"
"Just because you want it to be true doesn't make it true!"
"If you don't believe it, then why didn't you just ignore me like everyone else?!"
There is a silence at that.
"Do you....do you feel like we ignore you?" Amy asked.
Connor looks away. "....no. No, not you guys," Connor muttered.
Leo stared for a few more moments and sighed. "I'm....sorry. I...you could have gotten hurt, Connor."
"I'm fine-"
"You might not have been," he said.
"Then why not say that?" Amy asked. "Instead of saying its a wild goose chase?"
Leo rubbed his arm, looking away.
Amy hummed. "Leo isn't very good at emotions," she said.
"I....I just want you guys to be okay," Leo said. "You guys have been so nice since I got here, I just want to make sure you don't get hurt," he said, glancing up and away.
Connor was quiet a few moments. "I....you guys sometimes say my stuff isn't true, but...you're listening. Most of the time people just go 'that's nice' or whatever."
"They don't really listen," Leo said. "Just a kid prattling on, right?"
Connor nods, arms wrapping around himself. "And like....I mean, we KNOW magic is real. We've seen it now. So maybe the stuff I believe in really is true? You know?"
"....yeah. Yeah, that's fair. Its just...its a lot, you know?"
"Yeah. But that's why I want to find it," Connor said. "See some of it in person."
"...maybe we will one day," Leo said, pushing himself to his feet and holding out his hand. "But let's try not to die seeing it, deal?"
Connor looks at the hand and takes it. "Deal."
Amy beamed and throws her arms around both boys. "There you guys go! Figuring out your feelings!"
Then there's a chirp from Amy's phone. She checks the message. "Prama and Ty want to meet us at the front."
And they hurry back to Prama and Ty standing there anxiously, quick to herd everyone outside despite Connor's protest.
"Its exterminators," Prama said. There's apparently a roach problem they're trying to keep quiet. We overhead them, saw their shadows."
"Had to get out before we got caught," Ty said.
Connor slumps in disappointment. "Seriously?"
Ty pats his back. "Sorry bud," he said.
"Maybe we'll find a ghost next time," Leo said.
"There's a lot of mysteries out there!" Amy said encouragingly.
There is a little more talk about the silly scares and the almost accident, but soon enough, they're parting to go home.
Leo watches them all disappear from view....and immediately heads back to the school. He opens a door with a broken latch. He goes through the halls, undoing trip wire, speakers, and even a sent up for shadow puppetry. He tosses the pieces in the bag and heads to the gym. He heads to the storage room, and opens up a concealed panel near the floor, inputting a number, and opening a secret door.
Its a space between the building and the construction zone, unused, but stable and concealed. And inside is a whole room. Bed, small table, minifridge, lights, hot plate, laptop, extension cords...and even a one eyed cat with a black circle around his good eye.
Leo picks up the cat and flops down on the bed with a sight. "Well, at least I'm not longer the ghost of the school."
Memory 2
Leo is walking through the street with an umbrella. The rain is powering, but he's running around, calling for 'Donut.' He's getting soaked, but he's intent...
And then he runs into Amy, walking home from the store with groceries. At first, he's evasive on why he was calling out Donut, but Amy is having None Of It. Leo is a worrywart, why is he out here, soaked through. He finally relents and admits....his cat got out and he hasn't been able to find her.
Amy says they'll figure it out and immediately calls their friends despite his protest. Soon, he has all his friends here to help him look for his cat. He shows them a picture and says he's look all around his neighborhood.
So they begin asking around. It takes a while, but they start finding people who've seen a one eyed cat. The path gets out further and further.
"Man, your cat is bold," Ty commented.
"She hates loud noises. The thunder probably sent her running," Leo said.
"We'll find her soon," Amy said. "I bet she really just want to go home."
"...yeah. Yeah, I think so," Leo said, trying to keep from worrying too much.
They continued their search, eventually ending up at a laundromat. They head to an alley, but its a dead end. They're ready to turn around and look for more clues, when Leo pauses. He sees a small window open at ground level and upon closer inspection, he sees a bit of black fur.
He slips inside, determined to Get His Cat.
"Doesn't he usually get on our case about breaking and entering?" Ty commented.
"Leo really loves cats. That's...kind of cute," Prama said.
"Just stay out there. I'll be right back," Leo calls back in a loud whisper.
"Nuh uh," Amy said, slipping inside right after.
"Guys, I don't-" Leo just gently faceplams as they all slip in. "Fine, fine. Just find my cat and we get out," he whispered. "And keep quiet."
He turns to look at the basement of the laundromat. There's a lot of clothes hanging and the place is....oddly very large for the business. "Must have been something different before," Leo muttered and begins to look around for his cat, looking for signs of fur on the clothes.
There is the shift of clothes as they go further and further in, and there's another weird sound. It's machinery, but not just a hum, but the sound of printing.
But Leo sees the fur and he heads that way, keeping low to the ground, and careful to not draw the others attention. But the sound is getting louder as he sees more fur. Then he pushes away a hanging count and sees....a very large printer.
And slicer.
Cutting up newly printed money.
There is a moment where Leo just stares and then quickly moves back. He sees Amy first and he grabs her shoulder. "Workers are here, we should leave. I should just ask them for my cat," he said, voice even.
"We could just explain to them now?" Amy suggested.
"Much better to ask them up there," Leo said.
"I guess-"
There's a crash.
"What's a cat doing in here?!" An adult voice shouts. "Get rid of it!"
"Its spilled our dye, its got it all over it," another said.
"Shit. Throw it in the incinerator," said the first.
"Wait, don't! That's our friend's cat!" Connor shouted.
"Goddamnit," Leo muttered, hand slapping over Amy's mouth and he grabs her into a thick curtain of the clothes.
"What-is that a kid?!"
There is chaos then, with Prama and Tybalt going to Connor's aid, the adults displeased at so many witnesses. Amy struggles to go herself.
"They're counterfeiting. We need to handle this calmly," Leo hissed in her ear.
Amy stills at that, but nods. Leo loosens his hold, and pulls Amy along as he looks around at what they have to work with. The adults are talking about what to do, killing kids is pretty dark, but they also can't let witnesses go, but also does anyone know where they are.
Leo and Amy pulled down large coats and he hands them to Amy's. He picks up cleaning products.
They get into place and after throwing a can at the button, the clothes all begin to move on their hooks, causing a loud racket and distracting the criminals. With that, Amy moved quickly, throwing the coats over her friends and herself.
Leo threw the cleaning products in an explosion of very intense chemicals, causing the men to scream. He grabs a grabbing hook and throws it hard at the counterfeiting machine, leading to a scream of metal grinding against each other.
"What the fuck-shut off the machine, don't let it break!" One of the criminals shout, trying to look for the shut off while mostly blinded.
Leo moves in quick, pulling out a combat knife hidden in his clothes. "Coats off," he ordered, moving to cut the rope holding the kids with Amy pulling them away. "Out out out," he ordered, herding them away, and scooping up Donut as they make their escape from the laundromat.
There is the ring of gunshots, but with the chemicals still doing their work, they manage to escape and get out onto the street and manage to hide in another business.
There's a call to the police and showing of Donut as proof, still covered in special ink used for money. Or counterfeiting money. The laundromat is investigated, children are thanked....and Donut is shaved. Much to the cat's dissatisfaction.
"Sorry girl," Leo said, scratching his ears.
"I think she's still cute naked," Amy said.
The cat just meows grumpily.
Memory 3
Leo and friends are on a trip with Prama's sister to the beach. They're staying at a cabin owned by Prama's aunt and it was a good way to spend their time off. There's chattering in the car, with them talking about some kind of attack in London. Connor is Super Excited About It.
Leo is...not. He's mostly listening to headphones, dozing in the car, but chatter sometimes gets through.
Connor has a shirt that has a familiar dragon on it along with a magical looking knight and maybe some Familiar Names to those who has seen Certain Magical Girl Memories.
They get to the beach and cabin. It's nothing super fancy, but it's good enough to spend time at. There's time handing out keys, Prama's sister basically telling them to not get into trouble as she goes to mingle with other teens, and how to divide up money for food.
Time is spent playing in the water and exploring the beach the first few days until finally, Prama comes up with a MAP.
She bought it from an obvious tourist trap. It's supposedly to a Secret Pirate Treasure, and she dismisses that idea, buuuut it might lead to like a cool grotto or somewhere to get awesome shells!
So they decide to follow the clues. It was the way to pass the time. They find some cool, natural features that have to do with cools, and explore more of the beach. And much like Prama called, they find a secluded grotto.
There is signs of people having been there, old bottle and wrappers, but its not a heavily trafficked place. They admire the tide pools and look at cool rocks and shells.
Leo wonders further away and he sees an odd glow. He goes towards it and finding a hole. Upon looking down, he sees a sight that makes him stop short.
It's a faintly glowing opal like feather. He steps away, pulling out his phone.
"Did you find something?" Prama asked.
Leo looks over. "It's not-" He starts, but the added wait is too much for the ground, apparently and there's a crack and suddenly the ground gives below them. Leo tries to push Prama away, and she grabs at him to try and pull him back, but they only end up caught up in the fall. There's a cry from the others, and Connor manages to grab them. Then slips. Then Ty. Then slips. And finally Amy.
They all end up falling down.
Hitting a large cloth sail that managed to survive the years, sliding down, and managing to not get TOO hurt as they hit the deck in a pile.
Leo looks up towards the real point of Concern, at the feather, which has become dislodged. He watches it float down towards the wheel, where a skeleton still is, draped over it. He looks around, taking in all the skeletons, and his friends.
He pushes himself out and pulls them to their feet. "Up, up, up, we need to hide!" He orders.
There is confusion, but then the feather makes contact and the entire ship begins to glow. Its then they realize Something About To Happen and they under the trap door in the middle of the deck, below the ship.
They hide there as they see the entire ship come to life, repairing itself, and the pirates reviving, the power of the magic breaking through the rocks that had surrounded the ship.
There is a call amongst the pirates, confusion and disorientation, until the captain says it doesn't matter! They have a village to pillage and nothing like wealth to clear all that ails them.
Leo wants to get out of there. This is too dangerous. Prama agrees.
The other three don't. The pirates are going to attack the village! They have to do something.
Leo looks at them and he knows he can't win this fight.
He tells them to stay there, let him investigate. He's the best at stealth. He manages to get that agreement and he sneaks off. Beginning his investigation of the ship. And a moment along with his phone.
'Found a feather. Sending you my location. Revived pirates who want to attack the town. Might be delaying them, you know how the kids are. If I don't reply in a minute to any return texts, hurry.'
He pockets his phone and keeps searching. He can see there are more pirates, and the ship seemingly fully restored. The pirates are still out of it, but quickly getting their sea legs under them again.
He returns to the kids and he offers up a plan. Basically him and Connor going up top to mess with all the ropes, because they're the best at stealth when Connor is Trying, and the other three find things to jam into the rudder pole.
They break and go about their sabotages. Connor and him are doing good at untying and cutting the ropes. It becomes apparent when the others mess up the rudder though.
Mostly because he had climbed up to cut a rope and as he made the cut, the boat lurched and he fell into the open.
The pirates react to his present and capture him. Thinking quickly, Leo says he's a stowaway, he wants to become a pirate!
There is a lot of intimidation and trying to cow him, but Leo commits to it. He totally wants to be a pirate, going full accent, and challenging any man to a sword fight.
....so they agree.
Which leads to Leo being handed a sword to fight. He takes the sword, catching Connor's eye, motioning for him to stay back. He breathes in deep, faces his opponent. The captain himself.
Of course.
So begins the sword fight and while it's clear Leo doesn't have the strength of the man, he makes up for it in speed and dexterity, leading the fight to go across the ship and even up the mast itself. It's a full on pirate movie and at some point the captain calls him out.
"Are ye playing with me, boy? You can do better than tha'!"
"Wha's the point of a' audition if ye don' put on a show?!" Leo shoots back.
Then there's an explosion below deck, causing the ship to lurch. Captain and Leo jump, grabbing one of several loose ropes to swing on down. The ship is beginning to sink and the captain turns to Leo, accusing him of sabotage.
Then the Prisma knight suddenly appears, kicking the captain in the face, and a full sized Miya, or Unisonya comes down, swiping at a group with her tail.
Which leads to a dragon, pirate, magical girl knight fight. Leo takes advantage to slip away from the pirates who are definitely more distracted by the other two, trying to find Connor.
"Leo, kids!" Unisonya shouts, swiping away another pirate.
"They're below deck!" It was the only explanation for Connor not shouting in utter glee at their arrival, he's not up top. Leo turns to go for the stairs when he hears a lot of water sloshing, turning to see Prisma Knight starting to pull water from over the side.
He's seen what some of the magic can do, ready to dive for a nearby banister should this be another big magic moment...
Only to see the water that made it over was only enough to knock over one skeleton and soak the Prisma Knight.
Leo hesitates. "Are you guys good?"
"Go get the kids," Prisma Knight says, turning from blue outfit and air to a shimmery silver as he draws a sword to fight the pirates.
Leo doesn't ask twice, rushing down below deck as the Prisma Knight and Unisonya keep fighting. He soons find them, looking them over, asking if they're all right, what exploded.
They exploded old gun powder. Which was Very Dangerous, but also Very Good Distraction, and he'll consider it a wash for his heart. He drags them back up, calling for Unisonya, whose quick to scoop up the kids. Leo goes with, until Unisonya gets close to the top of the mast.
Leo jumps off then, much to the kids' horror, but he runs along the top, working to mostly cut through the ropes before moving to the next, the weight of the sail straining the ties left. He looks down at Prisma Knight. "Knight!" He shouts, Prisma Knight looking up at him. "Giant net! Get out of the way!" He shouts, cutting through the last rope fully, and turning, throwing the knife to cut through a few more to push the weight over the edge and break the ropes. The mast starts billowing down, the bottom already mostly detached from earlier sabotage. Creating a giant, heavy tarp over the pirates as Prisma Knight flies out of the way.
Unisonya scoops him up again.
The ship sinks, the pirates are defeated, trapped under the weight of the mast and easy pickings if they get out, and the Prisma Knight retrieves the feather for Unisonya. Then the dragon flies the kids back to shore with Connor looking so overjoyed.
"You can't act like this is the first time everytime," Leo teased.
"I can and will!" Connor shouted back.
They land on the beach and Unisonya entertains the kids for a few minutes.
"You really can't keep them out of trouble, can you?" Prisma Knight asked as he and Leo watched.
"It was a tourist trap map. It was just supposed to lead to shells, not magic pirates," Leo said with a deep sigh. Very obviously not a new thing for anyone involved.
